Vancouver Island Seals announce Strength Coach Cameron McCarrick for the 2026-2027 Season

Cameron has many ties to Vancouver Island, being born in Campbell River, raised in Port Hardy, and having spent 10+ years living in Nanaimo prior to making the transition to Port Alberni, where he has now been for the past 4 years. Growing up, fitness has been an important aspect of Cameron's life, as he has always maintained an active lifestyle, being involved in many different types of sports, primarily with a love and focus on hockey and soccer. With the desire to pursue higher-level athletics at a young age, Cameron developed a strong understanding of the importance of strength and conditioning training in relation to sport and other fitness-related goals. These passions ultimately led him to pursue a job as a strength and conditioning specialist, where he worked for 5+ years at PRIME Sports Performance & Therapy in Nanaimo. During Cameron’s time there, he worked with a variety of individuals—from youth to older adults—focusing on creating and running programs for one-on-one personal training, small and large groups, rehab programs, and a range of sport-specific training for many different teams. With Cameron’s hockey background, he was highly regarded for creating and running many of the hockey programs, working with teams at the levels of rep hockey, major midget, the VIJHL, the Nanaimo Clippers Jr. A team, and various college and pro-level athletes.

During his time at Vancouver Island University, Cameron obtained both a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Physical Education and a minor in History, as well as his Post-Baccalaureate in Education. When Cameron moved to Port Alberni, it was largely due to his transition toward a career in education, as he currently teaches at Alberni District Secondary School. When Cameron isn’t teaching, you can find him at the gym, as well as coaching, creating, and running extra-curricular programs for kids and students in the community. Cameron is excited to step into this role as the strength and conditioning coach and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our organization.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to work with the VI Seals Hockey Club for this upcoming season. Using both my knowledge and experience in the fitness and conditioning field, my intention is to create sport specific programming that will not only focus on increasing strength, power, and overall explosiveness, but to also emphasize the importance of mobility and recovery throughout the season to put this team in the best position possible in having success. This will allow these athletes to not only perform at the highest level possible, but also for them to do so while staying injury free. I couldn’t be more excited, and I am already looking forward to getting started this September!” Stated Cameron.

Welcome to The Seals!
